After visiting several Afternoon Teas over the years, and seeing themed ones popping up like Beauty & The Beast, Alice in Wonderland and now Mary Poppins, it was time  for me to take it into my own hands and create some of my own themed Teas!

So i decided to start my 1st round of themed Afternoon Teas with a Unicorn Themed Tea and film it live on Facebook ( Watch it below)

I brought the idea forward as i was going to make Unicorn themed treats for a summer fete, so made it the same week.

I brainstormed ideas in my Afternoon Tea book for Treats and came up with the following menu

  • Unicorn Scones with the usual cream and Jam
  • Unicorn Multicoloured Biscuits
  • Unicorn horns
  • Unicorn Brownies
  • Unicorn Cupcakes
  • Unicorn Cake balls
  • Unicorn poop Meringue drops

It cant be Afternoon Tea without any Tea, so i  got a selection of Teas from Tesco

Ceylon, Earl Grey, Assam, English Breakfast and Dharjeeling

Now i got the Tea i needed a Teapot and cup Asda had both and Plates and cups and

Mugs, i got the Teapot and side Plates from Asda and a mug from Typo as i liked that one more. It was a shame they did not do any sort of Milk jug.

DRAMA

I ordered the  Unicorn Teapot and another Teapot online as i did not have time to go to Asda due to work and they both arrived smashed to bits! so a swift call to customer services and had them refunded, visited the store and got the plates also.

  1. Cheese with Tomato Relish
  2. Cucumber and Cream Cheese
  3. Ham with wholegrain Mustard on Brown Bread
  4. Smoked Salmon cream Cheese

As i said i Filmed it Live on Facebook as it happened, the pouring of the Tea, description of the savouries and sweets.

SWEET STUFF

For the sweet selection i chose

  • Unicorn Scones with the usual cream and Jam shaped like Unicorns they did puff up and you could not cut them in half but they were a great novelty. I used my own homemade Jam for these
  • Unicorn Multicoloured Biscuits –  Butter Biscuits Dyed Pink, Blue and purple
  • Unicorn horns – Cream Horns filled with a Chantilly Cream and dusted with Gold Glitter
  • Unicorn Brownies – Brownies topped with Unicorn colours and Unicorn Sprinkles
  • Unicorn Cupcakes – Vanilla Cupcake finished with a Glitter dusting and Unicorn themed Cupcake Wrapper ( WHICH I DESIGN AND MAKE)
  • Unicorn Cake balls – Multicoloured Cake ball covered in Chocolate with Sprinkles and Glitter
  • Unicorn poop Meringue drops – Multicoloured Meringue  drops

Overall i was Happy with how it went and the treats i made. I would however use a bigger stand as my current tiered one is 3 different sized Plates.

I have had the 3 tier stand which i got in Tkmaxx, for many years

I paid £15 an absolute bargain but never seen another one since in there. It was for something like this, which is exactly why i brought it back then.

GOING FORWARD

For the next one

  •   need some sugar tongs,
  •   use sugar cubes
  • Plain white teacups. plain white plates
  • new 3 tier stand all same size plates, more space
  • Linen napkins

With these small additions it will improve the aesthetic for future themes.

WHAT`S NEXT?

I have a long list of themed Afternoon Teas to plan and get all the supplies, props and create the menus. Some are harder to source then others so some may but in the planning for a while yet.

Some will be much more elaborate and i will get a costume, music and background scenery. This may also mean promo videos and  singing.

NEXT UP : WINNIE THE POOH THEMED TEA  COMING IN AUGUST
