So after a month of trialing avoiding Gluten for mums lOW FODMAP plan we continue to have Gluten free stuff but also have Gluten in moderation. Here are some of the things we have had thus far and how i rated them.
Products can sometimes be grainy and different textured when being Gluten free especially Cakes, Biscuits, Breads so finding ones that are not and even recipes for making your own that are not is a challenge. Most Crisps are gluten free anyway but some are not as they use Flour in coatings so here are some that are all Gluten Free
Yushoi pea snacks come in a variety of flavours from sweet chilli lemon, green curry, Soy & Balsamic, salted and taste good. Mindi Indian crisps come also in a variety of flavours this one is Lime pickle
Found these in Home Bargains for 79p/89p and Tesco are selling them for over £2 as it says Pretzel type snack and tastes okay like a normal pretzel would.
Mr Kipling goes Gluten free ! these are quite pricey at £3 for a small loaf cake, got to try it as it was reduced. This is Ginger & Lemon loaf cake it has a lemon icing and more a less like a Ginger loaf, it is grainy in texture not strong on Ginger flavour but okay i guess.
they also have another one and a Bakewell tart loaf all at £3 per loaf, i would say approx 4 portions from each loaf at a decent slice each.
Genius Gluten free Cinnamon & Raisin Bagels 4pack– got to try these at the reduced price they are quite good, do not taste much different than usual Bagels have the chewy texture maybe a little drier in texture but would recommend these.
Newborn Bakehouse gluten free white sandwich thins
I would recommend these as they taste great, they do have a bit of a grainy coating on the outside but otherwise like a usual sandwich thin, great for Sandwiches and even Burgers. I have had the Tesco ones before and they are also good but these are a bit thicker so the the whole thing doesn’t fall apart when eating it.
SCHAR PANINI ROLLS
I would highly suggest these as they taste no different than regular ones, not grainy albeit a bit smaller then the gluten counterparts great for sandwiches and snacks.
TESCO OWN BRAND GLUTEN FREE BREADSTICKS
I have not made my mind up on these, they are made with cornflour and potato starch so not sure if it is that taste or that they are a bit too salty, they was okay not a hit with everyone in the house though
BURGEN GLUTEN FREE LOAFS
Got to try these Free via checkoutsmart and clicksnap and nearly £3.00 a loaf !
they are a bit too heavy textured for me, possibly because of all the seeds in them, best for toast or breaking up as Breadcrumbs if they were reduced. A bit too heavy for a sandwich and dry textured.
SCHAR GLUTEN FREE CRISPBREAD
These Crispbreads are great for Cheese and alternative to sandwiches, they are a bit crunchier than the gluten counterparts, but after having them a while you do not notice it. Got to try these cheap when the Schar coupon was around and ended up with multiple boxes of them.
Kettle bites Lentil sweet chilli Curls – full of flavour and not too spicy
Kettle Discoveries New York Deli taste of Pickles to me not sure yet about these!
More YUshoi pea snacks mild green curry ones are tasty indeed , not mad about the lightly salted ones or the Soy & Balsamic vinegar ones.
Got to try these Schar Viennese whirls at the freefrom allergy show and they tasted great, only very slightly grainy but very Buttery and if i had not been told would not have know they were gluten free. Would recommend these
Newborn bakehouse Protein wraps they also do white ones
I am more of a fan of the White wraps as a replacement for a wrap than these as they were a little dry and grainy. The white ones do have a grainy texture on the outside but okay.
Tesco Pea snacks Salt & Vinegar & Basil
Got to try these as they were reduced to clear. These are an interesting combo with the Basil not bad, if you are a Salt & Vinegar Crisp fan you would like them.
TYRELL`S KALE & SPIRULINA CORN CHIPS
Got these on sale in QD stores for 35p a bag, not sure on these either but something different for sure and how often do you get to eat Green crisps !
Most Corn chips are Gluten free anyway but flavoured ones do offer something a bit different than Cheese or Plain flavour ones.
Barbecue air popped pea snacks Tesco other flavours available, not the same as the Barbecue flavour we know from other crisps but these were nice, more Tomato like taste.
Managed to get some Reduced in Tesco Freefrom Apple pies
these were okay i had mine room temperature would be better warmed up me thinks.
MARKS AND SPENCERS FREE FROM WHEAT CAKES
Coffee and Walnut, although small and £3.50 each, say it serves 8 but i would say 4-6 really. A very Buttery Sponge full of Coffee flavour and you would be hard pressed to tell it was Gluten free. Light and fluffy but deffo not calorie friendly!
Victoria sponge was very nice also. Light and fluffy and reminded me of the store birthday cakes you buy. Got them both at half price £1.75. Also a Lemon and Carrot cake in the range. I would recommend these highly to try to anyone on a Gluten Free diet.
